The Single:

eight's debut single Whale released to radio in December 2001.

First performed in 1996, recorded as a demo in 1998, and finally released in 2001, Whale was a long time in the making.

Whale was funded with support from NZ on Air and recorded at Kare Kare by award winning engineer/producer Malcolm Welsford.

The title of the song was given to reflect the overall movement and depth of the song, but aside from that comparison, Whale has little to do with large deep sea mammals. enjoy.

The video for 'Whale' was a finalist in the Breakthrough Artist category at this years Juice TV awards.

Whale is featured on the November 2001 Indie Hit Disc from NZ on Air.

The Video:

The video was also partly funded by NZ on Air, and was directed by Jo Lonie, an award winner who now has 30 kiwi music videos under his belt. The video was shot just outside Ngatea near Thames. As it was heavily weather dependant, a single day shoot turned into three, with one entire day spent escaping the rain, with not a single frame of film shot.

Several home made hacky saks and plenty of doughnuts got us through the cloudy spells, and after a 3:00am start on the last day to catch the first rays of light, we managed to get it all in the can.
